Once again, youth prevails in friendly between Bears and Veterans

KORABI BEARS – KORABI VETERANS 6:4 (1:1)

Staten Island, NY – March 23, 2008 – In this sunny but cold Easter Sunday afternoon two Korabi teams, the Bears and the Veterans played a friendly match.

In the opening minute of the game the Veterans got a gift from Rusty Papraniku, who was playing in goal for the shorthanded Bears, when he misplayed a ball right into the charging Kujtim Kaziu who scored to give the Veterans an early 1-0 lead. Shortly afterwards, the Bears took control of the game with relentless attacking but were unable to breakdown the stubborn Veterans defense until the 35th minute when Abdulla Begai got past a defender and put a 25 yard shot past Tonçe Papraniku to even the score.

In the second half the Bears picked up where they left off in the first half as they were able to score in the 50th minute on a shot by Albert Rusi to take a 2-1 lead. In the 55th minute the Bears were awarded a penalty when Azmir Dzemoski was taken down in the box. Abdulla Begai converted the penalty to increase the lead to 3-1. Gazmend Belegu pulled the Veterans back by one in the 60th minute when he scored of a set play, converting a free kick pass by Agim Fishta for a 3-2 score. In the 65th minute Azmir Dzemoski put the Bears up by two again when he scored after a give and go to increase the lead to 4-2. In the 70th minute the Veterans were awarded a penalty when Murat Mela was taken down in the penalty area. Gazmend Belegu converted the penalty to bring the Veterans within one, 4-3. Once again the Bears came right back scoring in the 70th minute on a shot by Arti Mela to increase their lead to 5-3. In the 75th minute the Veterans pulled one back again when Zeqo Papraniku was able to deflect a shot into the net for a 5-4 score. Bekim Papraniku sealed the scoring with a header in the 85th minute to give the Bears a 6-4 lead.
