Freedom lose friendly

NY Metro Women’s Soccer League “B”

KORABI Freedom 2-4 NY Skulls
Goal: Tina Cortez (2)

Staten Island, NY – April 6, 2008 – The Freedom played another friendly match this afternoon losing to a more experienced NY Skulls team.

The ladies played a good game getting 2 goals from Tina Cortez but the Skulls were more experienced and were able to capitalize on the Freedom defensive mistakes.

Nevertheless, the ladies continue to gain experience and by the Fall season should be able to be very competitive in the NYMWSL.

Korabi ladies lose

NY Metro Women’s Soccer League “B” Div

KORABI Freedom – NY Magic     3:0 (1:0)

Staten Island, NYMarch 16, 2008 – This afternoon the Korabi Freedom took the outdoor pitch for the first time hosting the NY Magic Reserves, of the NYMWSL “A” Division, in a friendly match.

The ladies played a very good game, creating some scoring opportunities but could not manage to score. The NY Magic were the more aggressive, bigger and more experienced team. This game was a great experience for the younger Korabi ladies and hopefully they will gain the experience to be able to compete with the top teams in women’s soccer in the metropolitan area.

Even though some of the Korabi players have played together in the past, this was the very first time they all played together in an outdoor game. The Korabi ladies will be playing a series of friendly games so they can prepare for the Fall, when they start competing in NY Metro Women’s Soccer League “B” Division.

We would like to thank everyone who showed up on a cold and wet day for their support.

Korabi Freedom debut with tournament win

Farmingville, NY – February 17, 2008 – The KORABI FREEDOM, originally named LYNX, but changed it’s name in honor of Kosovo’s Indpendence, made its debut, in the Long Island Women’s Soccer League Indoor Tournament, a very memorable one, the ladies won the tournament.

Game 1 = Korabi – West Babylon Lightning #2 Tied 1-1
Game 2 = Korabi – East Meadow Lady Bugs Lost 3-4
Game 3 = Korabi – West Babylon Lightning #1 Won 4-3
Game 4 = Korabi – Vendaval Lost 2-3

Korabi advanced to the playoffs as a fifth seed.

In the quarterfinal Korabi faced a familiar foe in the East Meadow Lady Bugs whom they had lost to earlier. The ladies redeemed themselves with a hard earned 3-2 win.

In the semifinal Korabi beat West Babylon Lightning #2 by the score of 3-0.

In the final Korabi faced arguably the best team in the tournament, Vendaval, whom they had lost to earlier in a very close game. The game was a very close game with both teams having numerous scoring opportunities but coming up short. The Korabi goalkeeper had a fabulous game making numerous magnificent saves in helping preserve the scoreless tie. After regulation time the game went into penalty shots. Still tied after 5 rounds of penalties it was up to both teams’ goalkeepers to shoot. The Vendaval goalkeeper missed her penalty shot hitting the right post and now it was the Korabi keeper’s opportunity to win the game and she calmly shot and scored making the Lynx debut a very memorable one.

The following Korabi players participated in the tournament (in alphabetical order):
Bukurije Begai, Fiosa Begai, Cristina Fulgencio, Hope Fulgencio, Casey Kenny, Kelly Kenny, Kristin Kvetkoff, Lauren Neglia, Melissa Neglia, Alyssa Pontevorvo, Kristina Stapleton

We would like to thank all the players, coaches, parents and supporters for making the long trip and making the KORABI LYNX debut a memorable one.
