The Korabi Board of Directors punishes Junior’s and suspends them for the rest of the season. Hopefully everyone will learn a valuable lesson. Below is the letter that was sent to the league.

Dear members of the Disciplinary Committee:

On behalf of the Korabi Soccer Club organization, I would like to apologize to everyone for our Korabi Juniors involvement in the embarrassing violent incident that took place on Sunday, March 30th, 2008 between our club and the Kosmos/Greek Americans.

As a result of Sunday’s incident, we had an emergency board meeting and decided that we need to take a harsh stance on such conduct. We feel that this type of behavior cannot be tolerated and have decided that, in addition to any disciplinary action imposed by you, to suspend the entire team, including the coaching staff, for the remainder of the season. In addition, we ask that you not permit our players and coaches to participate in any other clubs during this period.

We would kindly ask that you allow us to continue to field junior teams in various age groups and not allow this isolated incident to ruin what we have begun, the road to a strong junior program.

We certainly look forward to our participation in the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League.

Staten Island, NY – March 30, 2008 – The Korabi Juniors missed a penalty late in the game and conceded a goal in the final minutes of play to lose their first game.

Lower Manhattan – March 24, 2008 – Korabi Juniors played in the FC Vipers U-19 7v7 Tournament, and their performance was nothing short of outstanding on their way to winning the tournament. 

Again, the Korabi Juniors performance was outstanding, and they showed that they belong among the U-19 elite in the NY Metropolitan area.

CSJL Heilpern Mem Indoor Tournament

March 9, 2008 – Korabi Juniors played in the Cosmopolitan Juniors Indoor Soccer Tournament U19A, and their performance was nothing short of outstanding.

In their group they tied powerhouse Brooklyn Italians (2:2), defeated FC Harlem (3:2) and defeated Eleftheria (8:0). This tied them with Brooklyn Italians and only loosing 1st place in their group due to goal difference.

The semifinal game was against another powerhouse team Chernomorets, who took a 3:0 lead. With five minutes left in the game Korabi showed their great character and an excellent comeback to tie the game 3:3 and send the game into overtime. In Korabi kept pressuring and missed on a couple of chances, while their opponents took advantage on a free kick as the ball bounced off a defender and into the net to give Chernomorets a 4:3 win and put them in the final against Brooklyn Italians.

Again, the Korabi Juniors performance was outstanding, and they surely left a mark against Division “A” powerhouse teams in the Cosmopolitan Juniors Soccer League.

As a result, it was mutually agreed that Silver Lake would concentrate on youth teams ages 8 to 16 and Korabi would concentrate on teams ages 17 and older. This means that Silver Lake will develop the youth program that would eventually feed the older Korabi clubs. Korabi will help recruit both players and coaches for the youth clubs.

Officials of both clubs feel the potential is there and are very optimistic.

Astoria, NY – December 9, 2007 – Korabi Juniors continue to impress the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League by winning all 5 league games played so far this inaugural season. A goal in the first half was all Korabi needed today, playing in the bitter cold weather away at Eleftheria.

In their first game they lost 2-1 to Real Carib Maroons.

In the second game they lost 1-0 to Patriots Red.

In the third game they tied 0-0 with Chernormorets, a team they easily beat just a week before.

On a positive note, this was good experience for this young team and hopefully they learned from it.

Staten Island, NY – November 11, 2007 – This was supposed to be the real test for Korabi and they passed with flying colors, easily beating what is probably the top team in the West division.

Immediately after the start of the game Korabi went on the offensive and created many scoring opportunities but coming up short until the 33rd minute when Jose Luis scored to for a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later Berat Islami scored to increase the lead to 2-0.

In the second half the hosts seemed to get somewhat complacent and comfortable with their lead, making careless mistakes and in the 55th minute they gave the visitors a gift, an own goal to make the score 2-1. Shortly after this they gained their composure and took over the game and in the 80th minute Lirim Begai scored to increase the score to 3-1.

I think it’s safe to say that after this game Korabi will be one of the premier teams in the league.
